Live selling is popular with Indian sellers: show a saree on Live, take orders in the comments. It is also chaotic. Can automation reply to Live comments? Meta allows it, with one key difference from posts.
The rule for Lives
For comments on Instagram Live videos, private replies can only be sent while the broadcast is live. Once the Live ends, those comments can no longer receive a private reply. For posts and reels, the window is 7 days.
Tools need to support Live comment webhooks to do this. Check whether yours lists Live automation. DM Flow currently automates posts and reels, not Lives.
Handling Live comments without automation
- Pin a comment with the keyword for after the Live: "Comment PRICE on our latest reel for the catalogue"
- Have a helper reply to comments during the Live
- Use codes: show a code for each product ("say B12 to order") and take orders on WhatsApp afterwards
- Save the Live as a reel or post if you want comments to keep coming after it ends, then put an automation on that post
If your tool supports Live
- Use a specific keyword per product shown
- Keep the DM short with a WhatsApp order link
- Expect bursts; hourly limits still apply
A live selling routine that works
Before the Live
- Post a story: "Live at 8 pm, 20 new sarees"
- Prepare a product list with codes and prices
- Set up a reel or post automation for people who miss the Live:

During the Live
- Show each product's code and price on a card
- A helper replies to "price?" comments in the Live
- Ask buyers to WhatsApp the code to order
After the Live
- Save the Live as a post or reel if you want comments to continue there

Why the rule exists
Live comments are about the moment. Meta limits private replies to the broadcast itself so businesses do not message Live viewers long after the event. Plan around it: capture interest during the Live and move buyers to WhatsApp or a post.
