ManyChat is the best-known name in Instagram DM automation, and for good reason: it is mature, flexible and well documented. But many Indian sellers who try it find two problems. It is priced in US dollars per active contact, and it is built for complex chatbot flows when most of them only need "comment PRICE, get the price list". This article helps you decide whether you need ManyChat or something simpler.
What ManyChat does well
- Visual flow builder for multi-step conversations with branches and conditions
- Many channels: Instagram, Facebook Messenger, TikTok, WhatsApp and more
- Integrations with tools like Shopify, Google Sheets and Zapier
- AI features on higher plans
- Large community of templates, tutorials and agencies
If you run complex funnels across channels, or you are an agency building chatbots, ManyChat is a strong choice.
Where it gets hard for Indian sellers
Pricing by active contacts, in dollars. According to ManyChat's pricing page in October 2026, the free plan includes 25 active contacts a month, Essential covers 250, and Pro covers 2,500, with per-contact overage beyond that. Essential is about $14 to $17 a month and Pro about $29 to $39, depending on annual or monthly billing, before tax. A single viral reel can create thousands of active contacts in a day.
Dollar billing. International card payments carry foreign transaction fees, and the rupee cost changes with the exchange rate.
More than you need. Building a flow in a powerful builder takes time to learn. If you only need comment-to-DM, much of the product goes unused.

What to look for in an alternative
| Need | Check |
|---|---|
| Comment-to-DM on reels and posts | Core feature, should be simple |
| Keyword triggers with Hinglish variants | Several keywords per automation |
| Public replies with variations | Avoids repeated identical comments |
| Follow-gate | Included, not a costly add-on |
| Every-post automations | For evergreen keywords like PRICE |
| Pricing | Flat, in rupees, UPI accepted, GST invoice |
| Safety | Official Instagram login, never your password |
| Support | Reachable in your time zone |
Types of alternatives
Comment-to-DM specialists. Tools that focus on comments and DMs on Instagram. Simpler to set up, usually cheaper, fewer channels. Several Indian tools fall here, with free plans and paid plans from around ₹99 to ₹999 a month depending on limits. DM Flow is in this group.
All-in-one social suites. Scheduling, inbox, analytics and automation together. Useful if you need all of them.
WhatsApp-first platforms. If most of your sales close on WhatsApp, a WhatsApp Business API platform may be the bigger win. See WhatsApp vs Instagram DM automation.
Where DM Flow fits
DM Flow does one job: turning Instagram comments into DMs. It has keyword triggers, public replies with variations, an optional opening message with a button, a follow-gate, every-post automations on paid plans, and a contact list with export. It connects only through Instagram's official login. Plans are flat monthly prices in rupees with a free plan; see pricing.
It does not have a visual multi-branch builder, other channels or AI chat. If you need those, ManyChat or an all-in-one suite is the better fit. We compare them directly in ManyChat vs DM Flow.
How to switch
- List what your ManyChat automations actually do. Most turn out to be comment-to-DM.
- Recreate the keywords and messages in the new tool.
- Turn off the ManyChat automation for a post before turning on the new one, so people do not get two DMs.
- Test from a second account.
- Remove the old tool's access in Instagram settings once you are done.

Frequently asked questions
Is ManyChat available in India?
Yes. It works for Indian accounts and bills in US dollars or as shown for your billing country at checkout.
Can I use two tools on the same account?
Technically yes, but two tools watching the same post will both reply. Use one tool per post.
Will I lose my contacts if I switch?
Contacts live in each tool. Export them first if the old tool allows it.
Is a cheaper tool less safe?
Price does not decide safety. How the tool connects does. Use only tools that connect through Instagram's own login.
