Instagram automation tools use two main pricing models. One charges by the number of people you message. The other charges a fixed monthly price with limits. Neither is always cheaper. Here is how to work out which suits you.
Model 1: Per contact
You pay for a tier of contacts (people messaged per month) and an overage fee above it.
Pros
- Low cost for small accounts
- Scales smoothly if your audience grows steadily
Cons
- Bills jump with viral reels
- Hard to predict
- Often billed in US dollars
Model 2: Flat with limits
You pay a fixed price for a plan with limits such as number of automations, DMs per month, or contacts stored.
Pros
- Same bill every month
- Viral reels do not cost more, up to the limit
- Often billed in rupees by Indian tools
Cons
- When you hit the limit, sending stops until you upgrade or the month resets
- You may pay for headroom you do not use
A simple calculation
You need two numbers: your normal month and your biggest month of matching comments.
- For per-contact tools: find the tier for your biggest month and add overage. That is your worst-case bill.
- For flat tools: find the cheapest plan whose monthly DM limit is above your biggest month.
- Add hidden costs: GST, foreign transaction fees on dollar billing.
- Compare worst cases, then normal cases.
Example
A skincare brand: normal month 800 commenters, biggest month 4,000.
| Per-contact tool | Flat tool | |
|---|---|---|
| Normal month | Mid tier | Plan covering 4,000+ DMs |
| Biggest month | Higher tier + overage | Same plan, same price |
| Currency | USD + fees + GST | INR + GST |
| Predictability | Low | High |
If the brand's biggest month is rare and small, per-contact may cost less. If spikes are frequent, flat usually wins.

Frequently asked questions
Which model do most Indian tools use?
Most Indian comment-to-DM tools use flat monthly plans in rupees.
Is per-message pricing different from per-contact?
Yes. Per-message pricing (common on WhatsApp) charges for each conversation or message. Per-contact charges per person per month.
Can I switch plans mid-month?
Most tools allow upgrades at any time. Check how they handle the rest of the month.
What about yearly billing?
Yearly plans are usually cheaper per month. Choose yearly only once you are sure the tool fits.
