The first hour after you post is when most comments arrive. If the automation is broken in that hour, nobody will try again later. A five-minute test before you post prevents that.
What you need
- A second Instagram account that is not the one connected to the tool. A friend's or a test account you made. Tools ignore comments from the post's own account.
- Your phone, to open the link the way a customer will.
The five-minute routine
1. Check the automation summary
Read it back as if you were the customer: which post, which keywords, public reply on or off, opener on or off, follow-gate on or off, which link.
2. Comment the exact keyword
From the second account, comment the keyword as written in your caption. Within seconds you should see a public reply and a DM.
3. Comment a realistic variation
People do not type like captions. Try "pls send price" or "Rate?". If it does not trigger, add the word.
4. Comment something that should not trigger
"Beautiful 😍" should not trigger a product link. If it does, your keyword is too broad.
5. Tap through the whole flow
- Tap the opener button, if you use one
- If there is a follow-gate, test both: not following (should ask to follow) and following (should send the link)
- Tap the link button
6. Check the page on the phone
Inside Instagram's browser, check the page loads fast, shows the price, and the buy or book button works. Check any coupon code in the DM works at checkout.
7. Check the log
The activity log should show each test comment and what happened. If something is missing from the log, the comment did not reach the tool. Check the connection.
Before a big launch
For a launch or a sale, also check:
- Your plan's monthly DM limit compared with the comments you expect
- Stock on the products in the link
- That someone can answer DMs from people who reply with questions
Clean up
Delete the test comments so they do not confuse real customers, and remove the test account from your contacts if your tool keeps a list.
Frequently asked questions
Can I test with my own account?
No. Tools skip comments from the account that owns the post.
The test DM went to Requests. Is that a problem?
No. That happens when the test account does not follow you, just as it will for real non-followers.
Should I test again after editing the message?
Yes, a quick one. Most mistakes are in links.
How long after going live does it work?
Immediately.
