ManyChat is the best-known name for Instagram automation, and for good reason: it is a full chatbot platform. But many sellers only use one feature of it, "comment a keyword, get the link in DM", and pay for everything else. If that is you, there are simpler ways to auto DM on Instagram.
We make DM Flow, one of those alternatives. We have kept this fair, and we say where ManyChat is still the better choice.
When you do not need ManyChat
You can skip a full chatbot platform if most of these are true:
- You mainly want people who comment on a post or reel to get a link, price list or coupon in DM.
- You do not need flows with many branches, quizzes or AI replies.
- You do not run WhatsApp or Messenger bots from the same tool.
- You would rather pay a flat price in rupees than a dollar price that rises with contacts.
When ManyChat is still the right choice
- You want visual flows with many steps and conditions.
- You need story reply or mention automation.
- You want AI to answer open questions in your inbox.
- You run several channels from one place.
If that is you, stay. See our DM Flow vs ManyChat comparison for the full side-by-side.
Your options for auto DM without ManyChat
Option 1: A comment-to-DM specialist
Tools such as DM Flow focus on auto DM for Instagram from comments. Setup takes minutes: pick a post, type keywords, write the DM. You keep the parts that sell (public reply, follow-gate, lead list) and drop the chatbot builder.
Option 2: A social media suite
Some scheduling and inbox tools include basic comment automation. Useful if you already pay for one, but the automation is often limited.
Option 3: Doing it by hand
Instagram's own saved replies speed up typing, but you still have to answer each comment yourself. Fine for ten comments a day, not for a viral reel.
How to move your automations across in 10 minutes
- In ManyChat, write down each live automation: the post, the keywords and the message text.
- Export your contacts if you want to keep the list.
- Sign up for the new tool and connect Instagram with Instagram's own login.
- Recreate each automation. In DM Flow that is: post, keywords, opening DM with a button, link message.
- Comment from a second account to test each one.
- Switch off the ManyChat automations so people do not get two DMs.

Can I auto DM on Instagram for free without ManyChat?
Yes. DM Flow's free plan runs one live comment-to-DM automation forever, with 200 DMs a month and no card.
Will I lose my ManyChat contacts if I switch?
Not if you export them first. Your Instagram followers and conversations stay on Instagram either way.
Can I run ManyChat and another tool together?
Technically yes, but do not run both on the same post, or people will get two DMs.
Is it allowed to auto DM without ManyChat?
Yes. What matters is that the tool uses Meta's official API and only replies to people who commented or messaged you.
