A collab post is one post that appears on two (or more) accounts at once. It shows up on both profiles, in both sets of followers' feeds, and the likes, comments and views are shared. For a small account, it is the fastest way to get in front of a few thousand people who already like content like yours.

How collab posts work
When you create a post or reel, tap Tag people, then Invite collaborator, and choose the account. Once they accept, the post appears on both profiles with both names at the top. Either account can create it, and you can usually add more than one collaborator.
Who to collab with
The best partners:
- Share your audience, not your product. A saree seller and a jewellery maker. A fitness coach and a healthy-food home kitchen. A wedding photographer and a makeup artist.
- Are a similar size. Accounts with similar follower counts are more likely to say yes, and the exchange feels fair.
- Have real engagement. Check that their posts get genuine comments, not just big numbers.
- Are local, if you are a local business. Two shops in the same city share customers.

How to ask for a collab
Send a short, specific DM:
"Hi Priya! I run @budgetofficewear (8k followers, mostly working women in Pune). Your jewellery would look great with our new kurta range. Want to do a collab reel styling 3 office looks? I will handle the shoot and editing. You approve before it goes live."
Say who you are, why it fits their audience, exactly what you propose, and that you will do most of the work.
Make the collab convert into followers
A collab brings views from the partner's audience. Make sure they follow you too:
- Mention what people get by following you at the end of the reel.
- Add a call to action: "Comment LOOKS and we will DM you the full list with prices."
- Use a follow-gate: the list is sent after people follow, so new viewers become followers of your account. DM Flow handles this automatically. How it works
- Pin the collab to your profile for a few days.
- Reply to every comment in the first hours.
Collab mistakes to avoid
- Partnering with an account whose audience does not care about your niche.
- A post that only promotes one side.
- No call to action, so new viewers enjoy it and leave.
- Partnering with accounts that have bought followers. Their audience will not engage.

Frequently asked questions
Do collab posts help grow Instagram followers?
Yes. A collab post is shown to both accounts' followers, so each account reaches a new audience that already likes similar content.
Who gets the followers from a collab post?
Both accounts can gain followers. The one with the clearer reason to follow (a strong profile, a call to action, a follow-gate) usually gains more.
How many collaborators can a post have?
You can usually invite more than one. Check the current limit in the Invite collaborator screen, as Instagram changes it from time to time.
Can a business collab with a creator?
Yes. Brand and creator collabs are common, but if you pay the creator, the post must be marked as a paid partnership.
How often should I do collabs?
One or two a month is a good start. Too many can make your profile feel like ads.
