If they delete the comment after the DM
The DM has already been delivered, so it stays in their inbox. Deleting a comment does not unsend a message. Your public reply under the comment usually disappears with it, because replies belong to the comment.
In DM Flow the person stays in your contact list with what they asked for.
If they delete it before the DM goes out
Comment-to-DM tools reply within seconds, so this is rare. If the comment is gone before the reply is sent, Instagram may refuse the private reply. Your activity log will show the reason.
Can people edit a comment to trigger the DM?
Instagram does not let people edit comments. To trigger the automation they need to post a new comment with the keyword. If someone wrote the wrong word, tell them: "Comment LINK again 🙂".
If you delete or hide the comment
- Deleting a comment yourself does not unsend the DM.
- Hiding a comment (for example with Instagram's hidden words) can stop it from reaching tools in some cases. If a keyword is also on your hidden words list, remove it.
