It happens all the time: a reel takes off, comments pile up, and only then do you set up automation. Can you DM everyone who already commented?
What automation does
Comment-to-DM automation answers new comments from the moment it is switched on. It does not go back through old comments. DM Flow marks existing comments as already handled when it first watches a post, so nobody gets a surprise DM days later.
What Instagram allows
Instagram lets you send one private reply to a comment for seven days after it was posted. So comments from the last week can still be answered, by you, from the Instagram app.
The quickest way to catch up by hand
- Switch on the automation first, so new comments are covered.
- Open the reel's comments, newest first.
- For each comment asking for the link, tap Reply → Send private reply (or message them).
- Paste a saved reply with the link. Instagram's saved replies make this faster.
- Stop at comments older than seven days.
Next time
Set up an every-post automation before you post, so even a surprise viral reel is covered from the first comment. See comment to DM on every new post.

Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't the tool reply to old comments automatically?
To avoid messaging people days or weeks later without warning, and because Instagram only allows private replies within seven days.
Can I reply to old comments publicly instead?
Yes. A public reply like "DM'd you!" is fine on any comment.
What about comments older than seven days?
They cannot get a private reply. Ask in a new reel or story for people to comment again.
