Usually not. Automation tools connect to your account through Instagram's API using an account ID, not your @username. Change the name and your automations keep working.
Safe changes
- Changing your @username
- Changing your display name, bio or profile photo
- Switching between Business and Creator
- Changing your profile category
Changes that can stop automation
- Switching to a personal account
- Making the account private
- Changing your password or completing a security check, which can end the tool's access
- Removing the tool from Instagram's connected apps
If any of these happen, reconnect the account in your tool.
Two things to update after a username change
- Follow-gate messages that mention your old @handle ("Follow @oldname to unlock"). Update the text.
- Links in your messages that point to
instagram.com/oldname. In DM Flow, the follow-gate's "Open profile" button uses your current username automatically.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to reconnect after changing my username?
Usually no. If the tool shows the old name, reconnecting refreshes it.
Will my contact list be affected?
No. Contacts stay in your tool.
Does switching Business to Creator reset automations?
No. Both are professional accounts, and automations keep working.
